Ceramics 1 with Mrs. Sanyour was the first experience I’ve had working with clay so here lies my first semester's collection of pottery. The process of making my bowls and glazing, however simple, was new and exciting. I chose a mug and an urn-like piece with handles as well as an eccentric platter for my pieces to make, because of the throwing and/or handbuilding aspects that combine to make a beautiful but yet useful piece. I also figured my platter and my mug or urn-like piece/s would be useful during the Christmas season while I bake gingerbread with my extended family while drinking hot chocolate. Glazing these beauties was the simple part, because I chose fairly simple designs, either combinations of different colors or a devil-like mural on my mug. As you can see, on all of these dishes - except maybe the mug - I emphasized looks over functionality and so these dishes may remain untouched for a while, hence the title. However, I do hope these dishes inspire viewers to construct pottery with handles and creative designs themselves.
